Mykola Tomenko: Rising the Retirement Age without Implementing the Pension Reform is neither Fair, nor Right
In the interview to the National Radio Broadcasting Company, Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, commented upon the intentions of the authorities to raise the retirement age for women. He stated that "the authorities took the wrong stance as regards the pension reform."
M.Tomenko stated that a substantial reform of pension provision should be implemented. "The principle of equity should be restored instead of looking for the ways to fill the pension fund at the expense of women," he said. The Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deems necessary to abolish the ‘elite´ pensions of the high-ranking officials, law-enforcement officers, etc. "We should revise the system of preferential retirement of people employed in the law enforcement bodies, army, etc," the Deputy Chairman stated.
M.Tomenko deems necessary to think over the adequate correlation of the person´s contributions for the working period and pension payments.
"These actions would provide for the permanent filling of the pension fund. Rising the retirement age without implementing the pension reform is neither fair, nor right," the Deputy Chairman stressed.
